Advising
Undergraduate Advising
The advising team for Chicana and Chicano Studies offers in-person as well as remote advising. We recognize that some of our students prefer face to face and others need to meet over Zoom. Either way, we want to make sure that you know someone is here to help you. Take a look below to see how to get in touch with our advising team.

CCS Major and Minor
Ready to sign up? Our current majors and minors are highly encouraged to meet at least
once a semester with our undergraduate advisor. The undergraduate advisor can help
with planning your schedule, deciding on future courses, answer questions about your
academic plan, etc.
Please email Dr. Kimberly Miranda, our undergraduate advisor, to schedule an appointment.
General Education
For all General Education (GE) advising, please visit the College of Social Sciences Student Success Center, located around the corner from our offices, in CL 240. Visit their website for information about scheduling your advising appointment.
Preparing for your Meeting
To have an effective and informed advising session, we recommend you review your planner (found in your one.sjsu.edu account) and arrive with questions.
- Four year planner (for first time freshman)
- Two year planner (for transfers)
Graduate Advising
If you have any questions or need help planning your graduate degree in Chicana and Chicano Studies, please contact Dr. Juan Pablo Mercado, Graduate Coordinator and Advisor.
Collaboration
Finally, you may benefit from meeting with other faculty who have done research or had experience that interests you. We are proud to be an inclusive and supportive community, where we all work together for the success of all students. We encourage you to meet with any faculty member during their office hours. You may find an expert in our Faculty & Staff Directory.
